The Society of the Friends of the Abaissé Café (known as ABC; meaning “the debased”, or “of the people”) are characters in the 1862 novel Les Misérables by Victor Hugo and the 1985 stage adaption of the novel. Led by Enjolras, they are a group of Republican student revolutionaries that, after the death of General Jean Maximilien Lamarque, the only Parliament leader who cared about the common people, on June 4, 1832, build a barricade in the streets of Paris and fight the National Guard. The revolution is unsuccessful, with only Marius Pontmercy surviving.
